Watch Out For Tech Support Tricksters….

scam

Beware of unsolicited tech support phone calls!  If someone calls you
claiming that your computer has been detected as having viruses or other issues, hang up immediately.  Do not even talk to them.  Block their number if you are able to.  There have been numerous scams like this reported, many of them traced to outside of the U.S., but more recently originating here in the U.S. too…

Unless you initiated the contact in the first place, then this is a scam call! Even if you registered your computer purchase with Dell, HP, Microsoft or whoever, those companies do not “monitor” your computer for viruses, with the exception of pre-installed software that acts and operates locally on your machine.  In other words, you will never hear from an actual person via phone from those companies – unless you initiate the communication by calling their tech support services for whatever reason. Don’t be duped by these people!
